What changed in the library, release by release

New components, plugins and snippets, and new versions of existing ones, in the order they shipped. Every line links to the resource and names the version it moved to.

Tested with Etch 1.7.1, plus Back to Top 1.0.0-beta.5

Etch 1.7.1 came out on October 19, and all six components were tested on it. They work without changes, so you don’t need to reinstall anything for the new Etch version. The tests also found two Back to Top bugs that 1.7.1 didn’t cause; 1.0.0-beta.5 fixes them and a third that was already known.

    On Automatic.css sites the text styling variables now work, so button text uses the component’s defaults instead of your ACSS button text settings. In Safari with reduced motion, a text button’s accessible name now matches its label right away. An empty Builder preview no longer hides the button in the canvas.

Launch: six components, one plugin and three snippets

Etch Developer opens with everything below, each at the version it ships with. The components are betas and Link Picker is a release candidate; every resource page keeps its detailed changelog. From here on, each new version gets its own entry.

  • New Component Animated Counter

    Counts a statistic up to its value when it scrolls into view. The final number is in the HTML from the start, so screen readers, search engines and visitors without JavaScript always get it.

  • New Component Audio Player

    An accessible audio player for podcasts, narrated articles, lessons and samples. Compact or Card layout, Light, Dark or Inherit theme, an optional download and a remembered position.

  • New Component Back to Top

    A native back-to-top button with a progress ring that follows its shape. It can appear only on the way up, stays clear of footers and cookie bars, and moves keyboard focus to the start of the page.

  • New Component Before / After Image

    Compare two photos with a divider you can drag, click or move from the keyboard. Horizontal or vertical, any frame ratio, optional zoom, pan and fullscreen.

  • New Component Code Block

    Publish code with syntax colors for 13 languages, copy and download of the complete original, line numbers, highlighted, added and removed lines, and a collapsible preview.

  • New Component Comments

    Native WordPress comments styled for your Etch site: Inherit, Light or Dark theme, your own wording for every label, and a sample discussion in the builder.

  • New Plugin Link Picker

    Choose a page, post, category or archive for any Etch link from a searchable list. When its address changes, every link to it follows automatically. Released as a candidate for 1.0.0.

  • New Snippet Polylang support

    Fills a new Polylang translation with the source post’s Etch blocks, title and excerpt, so you translate the text instead of rebuilding the page.

  • New Snippet Rank Math support

    Gives Rank Math’s SEO analysis and link counter the rendered page, and builds automatic meta descriptions from the text in your Etch blocks. Only for Etch 1.6.8 and earlier: Etch 1.7.0 supports Rank Math natively.

  • New Snippet Slim SEO support

    Passes Slim SEO the text stored in your Etch blocks, so it can build a meta description without rendering the page. It also reads pages last saved in the block editor.
